Peddler’s Village welcomed Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and First Lady Lori Shapiro in May as part of The Great American Getaway RV Tour.

We were incredibly honored to welcome Governor Josh Shapiro and First Lady Lori Shapiro to Peddler’s Village on Memorial Day weekend! The Governor and First Lady, Montgomery County and Bucks County natives respectively, went on many dates to the Village during the early days of their relationship and were thrilled to visit us again in May.

In May, the Shapiro Administration launched a new campaign to encourage tourism in the state: Pennsylvania: The Great American Getaway. To kick it off, the Governor and First Lady, along with their four children, embarked on a week-long, 1500-mile RV tour across Pennsylvania to highlight what the great state of PA has to offer.

“Your getaway starts in the place where it all began — Pennsylvania.”

On Sunday, May 26, Governor Josh Shapiro and First Lady Lori Shapiro visited Peddler’s Village, the final stop of The Great American Getaway RV Tour. The 30+ foot RV, which traveled east to west, north to south, highlighting parks, lakes, restaurants, and tourist destinations, pulled into the Cock ‘n Bull Restaurant’s parking lot after its miles-long journey from the Pocono Mountains.

The Governor and First Lady began their visit with freshly brewed coffee and delicious cookies from Mama Hawk’s Kitchen and Coffee. Liz Hawkins, owner and “Mama” at Mama Hawks, greeted Governor Shapiro at the entrance before giving him and his wife a quick tour of the eatery. Shapiro discussed his plans to increase the tourism budget in Pennsylvania to encourage new out-of-state visitation and snapped photos with several employees and guests before strolling to the next shops on their itinerary — Sticky Situations and Extra Virgin.

At Sticky Situations and Extra Virgin, owner Stephen Clemente offered the Governor and First Lady a quick tasting of some of his many specialty honeys and olive oils, adding that both shops offer a unique (and delicious!) experience to its guests. The shop also helps our state’s pollinators by literally moving beehives from one field or farm to the next to create the sweet and savory honeys you can sample in-store.

After a quick stroll past the Village’s iconic windmill, Governor Shapiro and the First Lady stopped at Cluster’s Gourmet Popcorn. There were so many flavors to choose from (thankfully, you can sample before you purchase!), but when asked if he prefers “sweet, like Cookie Explosion, or savory, like white cheddar,” there was a clear winner for Governor Shapiro — “sweet!”
