“Along the Beaten Path” at the Upstairs Gallery

“Along the Beaten Path” opens on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the Upstairs Gallery with a Meet the Artist reception from 2 – 4:00 pm. The show continues through December 6 and features oil paintings by local artist, John Mertz. Mertz is well known for his recognizable locations and his remarkable ability to capture sunlight in his paintings. Mertz describes the work in this show as “sketches in oil along the trail I’ve been following.”
John C. Mertz was born and raised in north-central New Jersey. Before concentrating on his art, Mertz taught Biology at Delaware Valley College and held a number of administrative positions, including Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College. He and his wife, Margaret, retired in 2005 to enjoy their five grandchildren, gardening, travel, etc. He is very involved with the Bucks County Audubon Society in addition to devoting time to his art.
The Upstairs Gallery is a juried co-operative, one of the oldest in continuous existence, and currently features 27 local artists.
