SUMMARY:Lahaska Bookshop: Local Author Expo
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday March 29th from 1:00-3:00 PM for the Lahaska Bookshop’s Local Author Expo\, where we will showcase a variety of authors from our community. We are very excited to be able to expand our Local Author Expo into our Lahaska store as well as Doylestown\, to be able to accommodate more local authors and to celebrate authors who are local to the Lahaska area but are not necessarily Pennsylvania residents. \nParticipating Authors: Judith Lindbergh\, Geraldine Coronacion\, and Steven Nevets \nAbout the Local Author Expo: \nThis event began as the Local Author Spotlight at the Doylestown Bookshop and hosts authors from several genres for a large group book signing event in our store. The Doylestown Bookshop believes everyone’s voice should be heard\, whether with a small publisher\, self-published\, or with larger or more traditional publishers. We have re-branded this event as the Doylestown Bookshop’s Local Author Expo because it has grown in quality and quantity over the years. \nInterested in participating in a future Local Author Expo? Fill out this form: https://forms.gle/J48DCjVmzg6JSud39 or email events@doylestownbookshop.com with your name\, book title\, ISBN\, and publisher as applicable\, to be added to the waitlist. \nAbout the Books: \nAkmaral\n\n \n\nAKMARAL: a nomad woman warrior of the ancient Central Asian steppes must make peace with making war \nDESCRIPTION: \nBefore the Silk Road had a name\, nomads roamed the Eurasian steppes and women fought side by side as equals with men. \nLike all women of the Sauromatae\, Akmaral is bound for battle from birth\, training as a girl in horsemanship\, archery\, spear\, and blade. Her prowess ignites the jealousy of Erzhan\, a gifted warrior who envies her as much as he desires her. When Scythian renegades attack\, the two must unite to defeat them. Among their captives is Timor\, the rebels’ enigmatic leader who refuses to be broken\, even as he is enslaved. He fascinates Akmaral. But as attraction grows to passion\, she is blinded to the dangerous alliance forming between the men who bristle against the clan’s matriarchal rule. Faced with brutal betrayal\, Akmaral must find the strength to defend her people and fulfill her destiny. \nFrom the author of THE THRALL’S TALE\, praised by Pulitzer Prize winners Geraldine Brooks and Robert Olen Butler\, comes a tale inspired by Greek legends of Amazon women warriors and modern archaeological discoveries. \nPRAISE: \n“A crackling novel focused on the lives of ancient Central Asian women warriors …Lindbergh brings her protagonist’s ancient world to life with compassionate depictions of Akmaral’s love interests and frank portrayals of the savagery around her. …Admirers of Laura Shepperson’s Phaedra will be riveted.”—Publishers Weekly \n“Fans of Madeline Miller and Natalie Haynes will relish how Lindbergh weaves fact and fiction to craft a gripping saga\, a love story\, and a convincing portrait of a time and people lost to history.”—Christina Baker Kline\, #1 bestselling author of Orphan Train and The Exiles \nThe Thrall’s Tale\n\n \n\nTHE THRALL’S TALE: three women bound by fate in the first Viking Age settlement in 10th century Greenland \nDESCRIPTION: \nHeading across the stormy North Atlantic toward an unknown future\, Katla—a “thrall” or slave—attracts the attention of two very different men\, one who will scar her life forever and one who will redeem it. In Greenland\, she is brutally raped by her master’s son\, then shunted off to the household of Thorbjorg\, a much-maligned seeress and healer. In this unforgiving hinterland\, Katla gives birth to Bibrau\, a child infused with the savagery of her conception. Even as an infant\, she is taciturn\, reclusive\, and suspected by many to be a changeling. But Thorbjorg takes her under her wing and tutors Bibrau in the ancient pagan ways of healing and prophecy. When Christians arrive in Greenland\, tensions flare. Katla embraces Christianity while Thorbjorg senses her world slipping away. Meanwhile\, Bibrau\, twisted by bitterness and perversion\, uses her growing power to inflict her will on her mother\, Thorbjorg’s household\, and the vulnerable Greenland community. \nDeeply researched\, vividly imagined\, and exquisitely written\, The Thrall’s Tale is an extraordinary chronicle of love\, savagery\, and revenge at a turning point in history when Christianity first penetrates the pagan Viking sphere. \nPRAISE: \n“The Thrall’s Tale is an epic of the first degree… The Thrall’s Tale defines the genre.”—The Philadelphia Inquirer \n“Gripping and wholly original\, in “The Thrall’s Tale” Lindbergh places her prodigious research in the service of a story that transports through time and place\, but always remains anchored in the unchanging territory of the human heart.”—Geraldine Brooks\, Pulitzer Prize winning author of Horse and March \nI Know God Can Use Me\n\n \n\nI Know God Can Use Me is a children’s picture book that encourages young readers to recognize their unique gifts and understand that God can use them—even when they are small. Through joyful rhyming text and interactive elements\, the story guides children to explore how they can share God’s love in everyday life—singing\, helping others\, drawing\, and caring for people around them. The book emphasizes that everyone has something special to offer and that even “small” acts can be part of God’s big plan. It’s designed to build confidence and a sense of purpose in kids by showing them that God has a place for them in His world\, no matter their age or talents. \nThe Midway Conflict: Hour 1 \n\n \n\n“The Midway Conflict: Hour 1” is a captivating blend of history\, fantasy\, and existential intrigue\, where the boundaries between life\, death\, and the Afterlife blur. The story follows Steve\, a 29-year-old man grappling with a devastating cancer diagnosis\, undergoing radiation therapy as he faces a life-altering journey. But as his body fights for survival\, a greater cosmic threat looms. \nAt the heart of the narrative is Lady M.\, the guardian of the Fortress of Minds—a celestial domain where souls converge after death. When the universe’s central hub\, the linchpin of the Afterlife itself\, faces imminent collapse\, Lady M. must pull Steve from his sedation and guide him through a perilous\, fragmented reality. But Steve’s memories are fractured\, and as the universe teeters on the brink of destruction\, dark forces rise from within\, threatening not only the Afterlife but Lady M.’s very existence. \nWith time running out\, Lady M. is torn between saving the Afterlife and confronting her own unraveling fate. Meanwhile\, an internal ally struggles to accept his death\, while dissent brews among Lady M.’s followers\, casting doubt on her ability to lead. As the stakes grow ever higher\, alliances shift\, and the true nature of life and death is revealed in a race against time. \n  \nAbout the Authors: \n\n \n\nJudith Lindbergh’s new novel\, Akmaral\, about a nomad woman warrior on the ancient Central Asian steppes\, released on May 7\, 2024\, from Regal House Publishing. Her debut novel\, The Thrall’s Tale\, about three women in the first Viking Age settlement in Greenland\, was an IndieBound Pick\, a Borders Original Voices Selection\, and praised by Pulitzer Prize winners Geraldine Brooks and Robert Olen Butler. Her work has appeared in numerous publications including in Newsweek\, Zibby Magazine\, Next Avenue\, Writer’s Digest\, Edible Jersey\, Literary Mama\, Archaeology Magazine\, Other Voices\, and UP HERE: The North at the Center of the World published by University of Washington Press. She has spoken at and published with the Smithsonian Institution and provided expert commentary in two documentary series for The History Channel. Judith received a 2024 Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. She is the Founder/Director of The Writers Circle\, a creative writing center based in New Jersey. \nhttps://judithlindbergh.com. \n  \n\n \n\nGeraldine Coronacion’s personal story is one of a lifelong commitment to service across very different fields. Before becoming a children’s author\, she spent years as a Children’s Ministry Director and a pastor’s wife\, roles where she focused on guiding and mentoring youth. Interestingly\, her professional background also includes a career in the insurance industry\, specifically in fraud prevention\, where she was dedicated to “solving cases”. Her transition to writing was inspired by the desire to help children recognize that they are “small but mighty” and possess unique\, God-given gifts. \n  \n\n \n\nSteven Nevet’s journey as a fantasy author began in 2003\, when he completed a 500-page manuscript in just 11 months. Though ambitious\, the story never fully captured what he envisioned. Over the next two decades\, Steven returned to the work repeatedly\, reshaping and refining it through countless rewrites as his voice—and life—evolved. \nIn 2009\, Steven faced a life-altering challenge when he was diagnosed with ocular melanoma\, a rare and aggressive form of eye cancer. Choosing resilience over surrender\, he underwent surgery and emerged determined to keep moving forward—both personally and creatively. \nA pivotal moment in 2024 inspired Steven to fully weave his lived experiences into his storytelling. Drawing from fantasy\, history\, and realism\, his writing explores perseverance\, loss\, and hope. Through his work\, Steven aims not only to entertain\, but to connect with and inspire readers who may be navigating hardships of their own. \nFor more information\, please visit www.stevennevets.com.
