SUMMARY:Sights in Sand: An American Road Trip
DESCRIPTION:Buckle up and unfold your map! The giant sand sculptures are returning this summer.\nFor the fifth consecutive year\, Peddler’s Village will present a Village-wide sand sculpture display created by world-renowned sand artists. “Sights in Sand: An American Road Trip” will celebrate the iconic landmarks and history of our nation\, now in its 250th year. \nIt’s not every day you can travel across the county in just an hour or two (by foot\, no less!) to experience the five major regions–Northeast\, Southeast\, Midwest\, Southwest\, and West–and the fantastic features of each. But this year at Peddler’s Village\, we’ve made it possible! You’ll see the Statue of Liberty\, the Kennedy Space Center\, Mount Rushmore\, the Golden Gate Bridge\, and more.  \nThis free display is open to the public and will be on view to Village pedestrians through August 31.  \nIn addition to viewing the sand sculptures\, visitors can shop at 60 specialty store and boutiques\, dine indoors or outside\, and enjoy spectacular gardens and landscaping. Families can enjoy Giggleberry Fair\, the indoor fun center. Spacious overnight accommodations are available at the Golden Plough Inn.  \nSights in Sand: American Road Trip is funded in part by the Bucks County Tourism Grant Program \nHighlights from past years\nThe artists\nTeam Sandtastic\nDean Arscott\, Karen Fralich\, Dan Belcher\, Brian Turnbough\, Andy Daily\nTeam Sandtastic is based around the Tampa Bay Area\, and creates 100 to 150 unique sculptures a year. With over 30 years of experience\, Team Sandtastic creates one-of-a-kind works of art for corporate events\, weddings\, grand openings\, festivals\, advertising and sponsorships\, sporting events\, and more. They also hold the Guinness World Record for the tallest sandcastle ever handbuilt in under 100 man hours (28 ft. 7-1/4 in.\, 1998\, Georgia Stone Mountain Park). Sandtastic.com \nSand Sculptures by John Gowdy\nMaster Sand Sculptor John Gowdy\, a retired fire fighter from the Atlantic City Fire Department\, has been carving sand professionally for over 30 years. Working with his wife Laura\, he has won many national\, international\, and world-class first-place awards in just about every master sand sculpture competition on the planet. His greatest and most-often won prize is ‘People’s Choice.’ “We love pleasing the people who look at our sand displays and experience an emotional feeling from them\,” he says. SUMMARY:Author Cynthia Hankins at Lahaska Bookshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us in welcoming local author and equestrian Cynthia Hankins at The Lahaska Bookshop on Saturday\, June 27th\, 2026\, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m\, where she will be signing copies of her book Baxter Bay: A Pony’s Tale. This a signing only; there will not be a book talk. This event is free to attend and does not require registration. \n*If you would like to order a signed copy of the author’s books\, click here.  \nAbout the Book:\nFor young horse lovers and fans of classics like The Black Stallion\, Black Beauty\, and Misty of Chicoteague comes Baxter Bay\, a heartwarming and hilarious tale of two retired show ponies and friends reliving their glory days through storytelling. \nBaxter and Windy were once the stars of the show ring—glamorous\, graceful\, and totally unbeatable. But now? They’re retired\, furry\, a little creaky\, and full of opinions. Living out their golden years on a peaceful farm in Virginia\, these two ponies spend their days munching hay and sharing stories of their glory days with a group of wide-eyed young colts and fillies. \nBaxter is the polite\, humble hero of his past—a true gentleman. Windy\, meanwhile\, has attitude to spare and has never had a problem doing whatever it takes to win. Together\, they trade tales of young riders\, sparkling ribbons\, big wins\, and bigger flops. \nTold with humor\, heart\, and a little bit of sass\, Baxter Bay is a story about friendship\, growing older\, and the adventures that make you who you are—whether you’re bay\, gray\, or somewhere in between—that’s perfect for horse lovers\, animal fans\, and anyone who knows that being different just might be your biggest strength. \nAbout our Guest:\nCynthia Hankins is an accomplished author and hunter/jumper with a lifelong passion for horses—she began riding at the age of two. Today\, she teaches\, judges\, leads clinics\, and competes professionally both in the US and internationally. Her writing has appeared in publications including The Chronicle of the Horse\, Coast\, The Practical Horseman\,and In Stride magazines. Cynthia divides her time between Bucks County\, Pennsylvania\, and Calvados\, Normandy\, France\, where she lives with her husband and their tricolor Pembroke Corgi\, Sushi\, who speaks two languages but listens to neither.
