DINING PRESS NARRATIVE
A Tradition of Country Dining:
The Cock 'n Bull Restaurant
Anyone who enjoys a relaxing meal sampling the hearty fare and generous country hospitality served at the Cock 'n Bull restaurant in the heart of Peddler's Village experiences a dining tradition that goes back almost four decades!
In the early 1960s, Bucks County native and entrepreneur Earl Hart Jamison had a dream. He purchased a plot of land in Lahaska, PA, between Routes 202 and 263, with only a farmer's chicken barn with a hatchery and chicken coops. The locals nicknamed it Hentown.
Earl Jamison envisioned a picturesque 18th-century village where folks could enjoy a welcome respite in the country while meandering through quaint little specialty shops. He knew that his village would be enhanced by a place for people to dine during their visit. After careful planning, he created the Cock 'n Bull Restaurant, offering traditional American fare served among the antiques and fine Pennsylvania folk art from Earl Jamison's personal collection.
As people discovered this garden-studded shopping attraction, Peddler's Village expanded, with the Cock 'n Bull following suit. Adjacent to the restaurant, the Peddler's Pub made its debut in 1968 with stick-to-your-ribs soups, sandwiches and 1/2 yards of beer. In 1984, Hart's Tavern opened for lively libations and light dining.
One of the ongoing dining attractions that has made the Cock 'n Bull famous through the years is An Evening in the Colonial Kitchen, which takes place every Monday evening, January through March. Authentic Colonial open-hearth cooking is demonstrated and a variety of Colonial-style fare is prepared from a keepsake Colonial menu. In addition, Pan's Fancy performs live period music, and strolling historical characters such as Betsy Ross and Benjamin Franklin interact with diners.
Friday and Saturday herald dinner, dessert and death in the Peddler's Pub, which presents Murder Mystery Dinner Theater. A professional acting troupe entertains crowds with an enticing evening of fun, food and libations for who-done-it buffs. Thursday nights beckon for those with majestic-sized appetites with King Henry's Feast, a sumptuous buffet including all-you-can-eat lobster tails, clams on the half shell, peel-and-eat shrimp, and steamship-round of roast beef, carved to order. Sunday Brunch, an abundant buffet, was named one of the favorites by area readers of the Intelligencer/Record in 1996, and was featured on the TV Food Network's "Dining Around."
The Cock 'n Bull is also a sought after setting for elegant weddings, holiday and retirement parties, reunions, and business conferences, all arranged with the professional expertise of our banquet and catering staff.
The Cock 'n Bull, hub of Peddler's Village, sits proudly on 42 acres surrounded by 70 unique specialty shops, the 70-room luxurious Golden Plough Inn, the Giggleberry Fair family entertainment center with an antique operating carousel, winding brick pathways and award-winning gardens. Fun-filled, family-oriented annual festivals and seasonal special events also draw thousands of visitors to this Lahaska landmark.
